Three Reasons to Run Background Checks on New Employees

If you plan on hiring someone new, it’s always helpful to take your time.  Whether you have an opening at the office or you’re looking to hire a new house cleaner, it’s important to really think things through and to find the best employees you can find. Though running a background check on a new employee may seem over the top, running a background check is essential.  Here are three reasons to run a background check on anyone you’re looking to hire:

You don’t know their history.

When you meet someone new, you don’t know what their history entails.  You don’t know whether or not they’ve been arrested for drunk driving, they’ve been caught with drugs or even worse, you don’t know if they’re harmful to be around.  Since someone can portray a false image so easily, it’s important to dig deeper than just an interview.  Background checks are great at raising red flags if a person has a bad history.

Find out if they’re trustworthy.

When we’re looking to hire someone, we want to find someone that is trustworthy.  From being respectful towards other employees to knowing they will try their best to benefit our company or benefit the position they’re being hired for, we need to be able to trust an employee to some degree.  It’s the simple things like locking the office door at the end of the night, being able to trust a babysitter with our children and being trustworthy overall that really matters.

Avoid wasting your time.

Since the hiring process can take a lot of time, it’s nice to weed out all the bad employees right from the beginning.  For example, if someone knows they’re going to have to get a background check run on them, that may discourage risky employees, while encourage the better ones.  A background check can help you avoid hiring bad people right off the bat.  You won’t have to waste your time with bad employees and you can spend more time working with the best ones.  When you don’t know someone on a personal level, it’s important to find out their history so that you don’t have to hear about it later on when they’re already hired.

As you can see, running background checks on new employees can be very beneficial.  Though it may take a few moments to go through the process, you will feel much better knowing everything about their past.
