In 2005 my then 3 year old daughter had a frightening fall from a piece of playground equipment. She was taken to the emergency room of a local hospital where doctors thought she may have suffered a ruptured spleen and a dislocated collar bone. That incident was the catalyst for my interest in playground safety. Since that time my interest has become a full blown mission to do whatever I can to keep kids safe on playgrounds. Playground Inspection Professionals, LLC is my vehicle for accomplishing that mission.Prior to forming this company most of my professional career was spent in the financial services industry. I started as an account executive for a top tier financial advisory firm. I moved from that position to the trading side, eventually heading a trading desk for a small firm in downtown Manhattan. I was 5 blocks from the World Trade Center on 9/11 and that event changed things for me.Being the father of a young daughter and having a corporate background gives me the ability to see things from a variety of perspectives. I think everyone would agree that the safety of children in your care is a primary concern. I also understand that most of you need to balance budget constraints and litigation exposure while staying compliant with the laws in your state. You can feel confident that a relationship with Playground Inspection Professionals is the best solution to address these challenges. The July 2008 edition of Playground Magazine included an article titled “CPSI Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Concerns”. The following quote is from that article;“The CPSI should never conduct a safety audit or inspection of a playground with the intent to discredit a manufacturer or to promote sale of other equipment or products.”Playground Inspection Professionals, LLC is not affiliated with any other entity. We do not have relationships with Playground Manufacturers, Manufacturer’s Reps, Installers, Contractors or any other company or individual (By the way – if an inspector has been referred to you that person should disclose if there is financial compensation involved for the referral. Don’t be afraid to ask). This quote also appeared in the same article;“Anytime someone is in the position of inspecting their own work there is potential for ‘Conflict of Interest.’ It is a much better practice to have someone else verify that your work is compliant than to inspect and approve your own work.”We do not perform any work on playground equipment. Since we do not perform any work we can’t inspect our own work. We do not use our inspections to generate repair work. This total avoidance of a conflict of interest potential is the most ethical approach to keeping children safe on your playground.I invite you to join me on my mission to keep children safe on playgrounds. Contact Playground Inspection Professionals, LLC today for a free consultation. Oh, in case you’re wondering my daughter did not have a ruptured spleen, dislocated collarbone or any other serious injury. The playground was in great shape, can you imagine if it wasn’t?
